This will download the XAMPP setup file onto your computer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.devopsschool.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/aid3448325-v4-728px-3448325-4.jpg.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-17404\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>4. <strong>Open the XAMPP setup file.<\/strong>&nbsp;Double-click the downloaded setup file to do so.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.devopsschool.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/aid3448325-v4-728px-3448325-5.jpg.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-17406\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Click&nbsp;<strong>Yes<\/strong>&nbsp;when prompted.<\/strong>&nbsp;This will open the XAMPP setup window.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.devopsschool.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/aid3448325-v4-728px-3448325-6.jpg.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-17408\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>6<strong>Navigate through the XAMPP setup process.<\/strong>&nbsp;Click through the XAMPP menus by doing the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Click&nbsp;<strong>Next<\/strong>&nbsp;three times.<\/li><li>Uncheck the &#8220;Learn more about Bitnami for XAMPP&#8221; box.<\/li><li>Click&nbsp;<strong>Next<\/strong>&nbsp;twice.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.devopsschool.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/aid3448325-v4-728px-3448325-7.jpg.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-17409\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>7<strong>Click&nbsp;Finish&nbsp;when prompted.<\/strong>&nbsp;This will open the XAMPP language preferences pop-up window.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.devopsschool.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/aid3448325-v4-728px-3448325-8.jpg.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-17410\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>8<strong>Click&nbsp;Save&nbsp;when prompted.<\/strong>&nbsp;Doing so will save your default language settings and open the XAMPP dashboard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.devopsschool.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/aid3448325-v4-728px-3448325-9.jpg.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-17412\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>9. <strong>Start Apache.<\/strong>&nbsp;Click&nbsp;<strong>Start<\/strong>&nbsp;to the right of each of the &#8220;Apache&#8221; heading. This will turn on Apache. At this point, you&#8217;re ready to install Composer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>You can also do the same with the &#8220;MySQL&#8221; heading, but you&#8217;ll need to&nbsp;have MySQL installed&nbsp;in order to do so.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Installing Composer<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.devopsschool.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/clink-composer-1024x496.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-17447\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>2. Select the Composer download link.<\/strong>&nbsp;Click the&nbsp;<strong>Composer-Setup.exe<\/strong>&nbsp;link near the top of the page.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.devopsschool.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/Capture-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-17448\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.devopsschool.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/aid3448325-v4-728px-3448325-12.jpg.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-17415\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>3. <strong>Open the downloaded Composer setup file.<\/strong>&nbsp;Double-click the &#8220;Composer-Setup&#8221; file to do so.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.devopsschool.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/aid3448325-v4-728px-3448325-13.jpg.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-17416\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>4<strong>Click&nbsp;Yes&nbsp;when prompted.<\/strong>&nbsp;This will open the Composer installation window.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.devopsschool.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/aid3448325-v4-728px-3448325-14.jpg.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-17449\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>5<\/strong>. <strong>Click&nbsp;Next.<\/strong>&nbsp;It&#8217;s at the bottom of the window.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.devopsschool.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/Capture1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-17450\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>6. <strong>Select XAMPP if necessary.<\/strong>&nbsp;If you have multiple different command line-based PHP options installed on your computer, click the one listed in the drop-down box at the top of the window, then click&nbsp;<strong>C:\\xampp\\htdocs<\/strong>&nbsp;in the drop-down menu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.devopsschool.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/aid3448325-v4-728px-3448325-16.jpg.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-17451\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Click&nbsp;<strong>Next<\/strong>&nbsp;twice.<\/strong>&nbsp;This option is at the bottom of the menu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.devopsschool.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/aid3448325-v4-728px-3448325-17.jpg.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-17452\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Click&nbsp;<strong>Install<\/strong>.<\/strong>&nbsp;It&#8217;s at the bottom of the window. Composer will begin installing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.devopsschool.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/aid3448325-v4-728px-3448325-18.jpg.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-17453\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>9. <strong>Click&nbsp;Finish&nbsp;when prompted.<\/strong>&nbsp;Doing so signifies that Composer has been installed successfully.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Activating Composer<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.devopsschool.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/aid3448325-v4-728px-3448325-19.jpg.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-17454\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>1<strong>Open Start.<\/strong>&nbsp;Click the Windows icon in the bottom-left corner of the screen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.devopsschool.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/aid3448325-v4-728px-3448325-20.jpg.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-17455\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>2. <strong>Search for Command Prompt.<\/strong>&nbsp;Type in&nbsp;<kbd>command prompt<\/kbd>&nbsp;to do so.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.devopsschool.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/aid3448325-v4-728px-3448325-21.jpg.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-17456\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>3<strong>Right-click&nbsp;&nbsp;Command Prompt.<\/strong>&nbsp;You should see it appear at the top of the Start window. A drop-down menu will appear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.devopsschool.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/aid3448325-v4-728px-3448325-22.jpg.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-17457\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>4. <strong>Click&nbsp;Run as administrator.<\/strong>&nbsp;It&#8217;s in the drop-down menu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.devopsschool.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/aid3448325-v4-728px-3448325-23.jpg.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-17458\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>5. <strong>Click&nbsp;Yes&nbsp;when prompted.<\/strong>&nbsp;Doing so opens Command Prompt with administrator privileges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.devopsschool.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/aid3448325-v4-728px-3448325-24.jpg.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-17459\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>6. <strong>Enter the Composer validation command.<\/strong>&nbsp;Type in&nbsp;<kbd>php composer.phar<\/kbd>&nbsp;and press&nbsp;<kbd>\u21b5&nbsp;Enter<\/kbd>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Wait for Composer to finish updating.<\/strong>&nbsp;Once the update completes, you can proceed with&nbsp;installing Laravel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>If you receive an error when you run the &#8220;php composer.phar&#8221; command, you&#8217;ll need to&nbsp;manually change the Composer directory&nbsp;before you proceed with installing Laravel.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Installing Laravel<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.devopsschool.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/aid3448325-v4-728px-3448325-32.jpg.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-17460\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Close and re-open Command Prompt.<\/strong>&nbsp;Doing so ensures that you don&#8217;t have any interference from past commands.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.devopsschool.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/5.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-17461\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>2. <strong>Enter the Laravel installation command.<\/strong>&nbsp;Type in&nbsp;<kbd>composer global require \"laravel\/installer\"<\/kbd>&nbsp;and press&nbsp;<kbd>\u21b5&nbsp;Enter<\/kbd>. Laravel will immediately begin to install.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.devopsschool.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/89.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-17462\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>3. <strong>Wait for Laravel to install.<\/strong>\u00a0Once Laravel finishes installing, you&#8217;ll see the regular Command Prompt tag (e.g., &#8220;system32>&#8221;) appear below the list of commands.
