In my opinion, the most important feature in a transactional email API is email deliverability and reliability because even the best-designed emails provide no value if they fail to reach the recipient’s inbox. A strong transactional email API should ensure emails such as password resets, account verifications, notifications, and payment confirmations are delivered quickly, consistently, and securely. Features like retry mechanisms, dedicated IPs, bounce handling, and authentication protocols such as SPF, DKIM, and DMARC help improve delivery success and protect against spam or spoofing. While security, analytics, scalability, and API performance are also important, reliable email delivery has the biggest impact because it directly affects user experience, trust, and business communication effectiveness.
