Can u attach Aws vm or you can’t attach disks to a running VM?

Yes, you can attach EBS volumes to running EC2 instances in AWS. This is a convenient way to add storage to an instance without having to stop it and restart it. The process of attaching an EBS volume to a running EC2 instance is as follows:

• Stop the EC2 instance.
• Attach the EBS volume to the EC2 instance.
• Start the EC2 instance.
• Make the EBS volume available for use.

The process of attaching an EBS volume to a running EC2 instance is called “hot attaching”. Hot attaching an EBS volume is a more complex process than attaching an EBS volume to a stopped EC2 instance, and it is not supported for all types of EBS volumes.

Here are some of the benefits of hot attaching EBS volumes to running EC2 instances:

• You can add storage to an EC2 instance without having to stop it and restart it.
• You can add storage to an EC2 instance that is already in use.
• You can avoid downtime for your applications.

Here are some of the risks of hot attaching EBS volumes to running EC2 instances:

• The process may fail, and you may not be able to attach the EBS volume to the EC2 instance.
• The process may cause performance problems for the EC2 instance.
• The process may corrupt the data on the EBS volume.

If you are considering hot attaching an EBS volume to a running EC2 instance, you should weigh the benefits and risks carefully. You should also make sure that you have a backup of the data on the EBS volume in case something goes wrong.

Here are some additional things to keep in mind when hot attaching EBS volumes to running EC2 instances:

• You can only hot attach an EBS volume to an EC2 instance that is in the same Availability Zone as the EBS volume.
• You can only hot attach an EBS volume to an EC2 instance that is running an instance store-backed AMI.
• You cannot hot attach an EBS volume to an EC2 instance that is encrypted with AWS KMS.
