What is Tekton?
Tekton is an open-source framework for building continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines. It was developed by Google and the Continuous Delivery Foundation (CDF) and is designed to be cloud-native and platform-agnostic. Tekton is built on top of Kubernetes and uses Kubernetes resources to define and manage pipelines.
Tekton provides a set of building blocks that can be used to create flexible and customizable CI/CD pipelines, including:
- Tasks: Tasks are the smallest building block in Tekton and represent a single unit of work in a pipeline. Tasks can be reused across different pipelines and can be defined using any container image.
- Pipelines: Pipelines are composed of multiple tasks and define the flow of work in a pipeline. Pipelines can be parameterized and can use conditionals and loops to create flexible and dynamic pipelines.
- Workspaces: Workspaces provide a way to share data between tasks in a pipeline, enabling tasks to access input and output data from other tasks in the pipeline.
- Triggers: Triggers allow pipelines to be automatically triggered based on events, such as code changes or webhook calls.
- Dashboard: Tekton provides a web-based dashboard for visualizing and managing pipelines and tasks.
